What is a hybrid event and why is WPAT22 adopting this approach?

Our hybrid event will combine both a face-to-face gathering in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, as well an on-line conference platform to enable delegates to attend the conference virtually. The primary driver for this mode of delivery is the COVID-19 pandemic which we expect will still be impacting us globally by the date of this conference. Currently Australian borders are closed (see below) and there are no indications of when this might change. Operating in hybrid mode enables those not able to travel to Australia to participate on-line. It also offers the benefit that we can quickly pivot to fully on-line if required due to COVID-19 restrictions. We also hope that those who may not be able to travel for other reasons, for example, funding limitations or carer’s responsibilities, will be able access the conference, offering greater equity.

 

What are the current international Australian Border restrictions due to COVID-19?

As at 30-July-2021, Australia’s borders are closed and entry to Australia remains strictly controlled to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. What are the current interstate Australian Border restrictions due to COVID-19?

Australia comprises six states (Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia) and two territories (Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory). Travel between these states has also been interrupted due to COVID-19 and associated state-based health restrictions. Travellers coming to Australia should be aware of any interstate border restrictions that may apply at the time of travel. These will vary depending on the status of COVID-19 circulation at any time. Under what conditions would WPAT22 convert to a fully on-line conference?

The conference organisers are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and have agreed that in the event the COVID-19 situation at the time prohibits a face-to-face format, then we will revert to fully online for all Australia and Overseas attendees. For example, this might be the result of the Victorian government restricting non-essential events due to a local COVID-19 outbreak. If Australian Borders remain closed but interstate borders are open, then the decision will be made based on the number of local delegates attending. We would decide as early as possible to enable travel plans to be changed with minimal penalties.

 

What do I do about my flights and accommodation if I have to cancel my travel plans due to the conference converting to fully on-line?

We recommend that you check your airlines and hotel COVID-19 cancellation policy before booking. We cannot accept liability for any loss due to cancellation of accommodation or flights.

 

Will I get any refund if I registered for the face-to-face event, but the conference converts to fully on-line?

If we convert to a fully on-line event, we will refund the difference between the face-to-face and on-line events. In addition, if the face-to-face event is held but certain attendees cannot attend due to any factors relating to COVID-19, e.g. Border closures elsewhere that prohibit attendance, then we will again refund the difference between the face-to-face and on-line event.

What if I am sick on the day?

If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend the event. Refer to our COVID safe guidelines which can be found here when available.

What should I expect onsite at IWA WPAT22? Will it be COVIDSafe?

The conference organisers will closely follow Government recommendations to develop appropriate COVIDSafe Guidelines to ensure attendee health and safety at WPAT22.

How do I register for the conference?

Conference registrations will open in January 2022.
