About us OLD

About us

We are the largest School in the UNSW Faculty of Engineering, itself the pre-eminent centre for engineering studies and research in Australia.

From our foundation in 1949, the School has pursued excellence and innovation in education and research. Our alumni are to be found as leaders and decision makers in industry, government and the community.

The School is at the forefront of innovative, original and applied research across the breadth of civil and environmental engineering with particular strengths in construction innovation, geospatial engineering, infrastructure, water and transport. We host three internationally acclaimed research centres – the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering & Safety (CIES),  Research Centre  for Integrated Transport Innovation (rCITI), and the Water Research Centre (WRC).

Each year we work with over 100 industry and government organisations on specific industry related projects. In the last decade, we have won millions of dollars in Australian Research Council grants to pursue our investigations into issues of national importance.

In 2013 our researchers won over $2million in ARC Linkage Grants - collaborative research grants with industry in-kind or cash support - making CVEN the strongest performing School at UNSW, itself the highest performing university in the state.

Our unique Industry Partners Program helps us raise the profile of the profession amongst prospective students and the community as a whole with innovative outreach activities.

We continue to forge new links with industry and community partners to ensure a continuing real-world focus for both our teaching and our research.
