Building food and water resilience in the Pacific

UNSW-GWI is partnering with the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology Sydney to explore interactions between water and food in the Pacific and identify opportunities to build resilience in the region. 

In light of the deep and ongoing socio-economic shocks caused in the Pacific by COVID-19, The Australian Water Partnership (AWP), supported by the Australian Government, is funding the project to investigate opportunities for linking water resource management and food security to support existing efforts to build resilience of Pacific food and water systems.

With advice from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and The Pacific Community (SPC), an analysis will be carried out to synthesise the existing water and food security sector policies and synthesis done in the region. After identifying gaps in water-food security issues in selected Pacific Islands, the team will work with partners to identify possible areas of intervention across different modalities, and a framework for intervention will be designed. The activity will support the various efforts in strengthening partnerships to COVID-19 recovery and long-term resilience in the region.
