World Water Forum - 18-23 March 2018
GWI International Advisory Committee Member, Tom Soo, attended the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia on 18-23 March.
The Forum’s mission was “to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels, to facilitate the efficient conservation, protection, development, planning, management and use of water in all its dimensions on an environmentally sustainable basis for the benefit of all life”.
Approximately 6800 water professionals from 101 countries attended the Forum, which also hosted World Water Day celebrations and the launch of the 2018 World Water Development Report, titled ‘Nature-based solutions for water’.
The tenant of this report was that nature-based solutions offer an important opportunity of moving beyond standard practices to address many of the world’s water challenges while simultaneously delivering additional benefits vital to all aspects of sustainable development.
